A Casino (also known as a Gambling House or a Gaming Establishment) is an establishment for certain types of gambling. Some casinos are combined with hotels, restaurants, retail shops or other tourist attractions. Some are located in cities with a large population of tourists, while others are located in remote areas. Traditionally, casinos have been an entertainment center for the rich and famous, but in recent years they have become a major source of revenue for many countries and are becoming increasingly popular among the general public.
Some of the most prestigious and luxurious casinos are found in Las Vegas, but some can be found in other parts of the world as well. The Casino de Monte Carlo in Monaco is one of the oldest in the world and has long been a symbol of elegance and elite leisure. The Foxwoods Resort and Casino in Connecticut is a massive complex with 38 restaurants, two golf courses and an enclave of exclusive villas, but it’s best known for its enormous gambling facility, the second largest in America.
Other casino highlights include the Venetian Macao in Asia, whose enormous rooms and halls are designed to imitate the ambiance of Renaissance Venice. The Caesars Palace in Las Vegas is another legendary destination, having been a showcase for high-profile performances by the likes of Frank Sinatra, Mariah Carey and Rod Stewart. In modern times, casino security is usually divided between a physical security force and a specialized surveillance department that monitors activity through closed-circuit television.
